The Fuzzy Lop became a recognized breed in 1985. There are two theories as to their origin. One theory is believed that they came from the Holland Lop rabbit that carried the fuzzy gene. The second theory is that the angora rabbit was bred with the Holland Lop, thus producing the long wool. In either case, this breed is one special rabbit with the sweetest and most mellow dispositions existing in any rabbit breed. Of course, each rabbit is different in personality, just like humans, but generally they are a very gentile breed. What you want ideally in the Fuzzy Lop is a nice compact, round body and head; high and wide shoulder; no neck; short, open rounded ear that sets right behind the eye and that doesn't exceed 1/2" below the jaw-line; a well filled hind quarter that goes right down to the table; square setting hind feet; and a mid-height head carriage. The two main distinctive points between the Fuzzy Lop and the fuzzy Holland are the head set and the texture of wool. Fuzzy Hollands will typically have a high head set and a softer wool than the Fuzzy Lop.. |
